Knox County Schools Superintendent Jim McIntyre is requesting a raise for teachers in next year’s budget after a year in which he often found himself squarely in their crosshairs.

The budget going before the school board this evening will contain a proposal to raise teacher salaries in Knox County by three percent.  Currently, the average Knox County teacher earns $45,609, which places the system 38th among Tennessee’s public school districts.

Tennessee DOE Offers Signing Bonuses For Teachers

The Tennessee Department of Education will give teachers with the state’s highest evaluation scores signing bonuses to teach in the state’s lowest-performing schools. The Tennessee Department of Education is offering districts across the state enough money to give each new teacher at a priority school a $7,000 signing bonus.  In Knox County, one school is a priority school: Sarah Moore Greene Elementary, whose principal recently announced he would overhaul school staffing this year.
