World-renowned Wagnerian tenor Gerhard Siegel and pianist Gabriel Dobner to present a recital at UT

This Monday, November 23rd, a very special recital will be taking place on the campus of the University of TN.  World-renowned Wagnerian tenor, Gerhard Siegel and pianist Gabriel Dobner will be presenting a concert of German art song. Mr. Siegel has performed leading roles in opera houses all over the world, including the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera to name just a few. He and Mr. Dobner have recently released a new recording which features many of the songs which they will be performing on this recital.

Last week, Morning Concert host, Melony Dodson, spoke with pianist Gabriel Dobner by phone and discussed the music that they will be performing, how he and Mr. Siegel met and began collaborating, and also about the role of piano in German art song.

The program is at 8pm and will be held in the Sandra G. Powell recital hall in the Haslam music center on the UT campus.  The concert is free and open to the public.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
