Some of Tennessee’s federal legislators are giving up their salaries during the federal government's partial shutdown.

US Representatives Diane Black and Jim Cooperand US Senator Lamar Alexander have all pledged to donate their salaries to charity during the partial shutdown of the federal government.

The 27th Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits raises or cuts in congressional pay during the legislative session.

Yesterday’s announcement comes in the midst of criticism for Congressional members who are continuing to receive their annual salaries of $174,000 during the shutdown.

Spokespersons for US Representatives Marsha Blackburn and Scott DesJarlais say the two will continue to accept their salaries during the shutdown.

Senator Bob Corker has donated his salary to charity since taking office in 2007.
