Support WUOT today and help a homeless child!

Apr 3, 2014

Today is Community Partnership Day! If you donate today between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., your pledge will count toward our goal of 400 pledges. And if we reach 400 pledges, you can say you played a role in helping a homeless child!

If we receive 400 pledges, a generous anonymous donor will give $5,000 to Youth LIFT, a nonprofit organization with a mission to help homeless youth succeed through education. Youth LIFT has programs in Knoxville and Nashville, Tenn., as well as St. Petersburg and Tampa, Fla.

Youth LIFT provides volunteer tutoring/mentoring to homeless students in grades 1 through 12. Each volunteer is matched with one homeless child for at least one school year. The volunteer meets with the child for two to three hours each week to work on homework and other school-related issues. Volunteers meet the children at the location(s) where they live and take them to the library to study.

Youth LIFT also provides school supplies, as well as helps with transportation, enrollment and school fees. The organization takes the children on field trips every other month. Volunteers are positive role models who also help improve the children’s self-esteem and reinforce positive behaviors. Children involved with Youth LIFT have increased school attendance, improved grades and increased self-esteem after becoming involved with Youth LIFT.

All of your donation will fund WUOT, but if you donate today, you can make a real difference in a homeless child’s life. You can help them learn give them an opportunity to succeed.

Today is a chance to ensure a strong WUOT Public Radio, help a child and make our community a better place. Please call 865-974-6167 or 888-266-9868 or donate online right now. Thank you!
