Nief-Norf, an internationally acclaimed contemporary music ensemble based here in Knoxville, will once again present a couple of performances at the Big Ears Festival, which takes place in various venues throughout downtown Knoxville March 22-25.
At their first show, Nief-Norf will play the score that accompanies the film "Brimstone and Glory", which is about the one-of-a-kind National Pyrotechnic Festival in Tultepec, Mexico. This will be presented at the Tennessee Theatre on Friday from 1:30-3:00pm. The second performance is on Sunday at 6:15pm, also at the Tennessee Theatre. Members from the ensemble will begin by performing Steve Reich's Quartet, scored for two vibraphones and 2 pianos. Immediately following this thirty minute piece is the Bang on a Can All-Star's 30th anniversary concert program, in which Nief-Norf will participate.
