Nief-Norf Performs At Big Ears 2018

niefnorf.org

Nief-Norf, an internationally acclaimed contemporary music ensemble based here in Knoxville, will once again present a couple of performances at the Big Ears Festival, which takes place in various venues throughout downtown Knoxville March 22-25.

At their first show, Nief-Norf will play the score that accompanies the film "Brimstone and Glory", which is about the one-of-a-kind National Pyrotechnic Festival in Tultepec, Mexico. This will be presented at the Tennessee Theatre on Friday from 1:30-3:00pm.  The second performance is on Sunday at 6:15pm, also at the Tennessee Theatre. Members from the ensemble will begin by performing Steve Reich's Quartet, scored for two vibraphones and 2 pianos. Immediately following this thirty minute piece is the Bang on a Can All-Star's 30th anniversary concert program, in which Nief-Norf will participate. More information about this and the Big Ears Festival is available at www.bigearsfestival.com

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
