Officials with the Internal Revenue Service say more than $12.8 million are due to more than 16,000 Tennesseans who did not file tax returns for 2010.

They have until April 15th to file a tax return for 2010 in order to collect the money. Taxpayers have three years to file a return to claim a refund. If it’s not claimed, that money becomes property of the US Treasury.

More than 900,000 thousand people nationwide who didn’t file tax returns for 2010 are owed almost $760 million in tax refunds.
