The Knoxville Police Department has named a suspect in a Tuesday night shooting near the University of Tennessee campus that sent three people to the hospital for injuries. Police say 25 year-old Brandon Middlebrook of Knoxville will face a variety of charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder. Middlebrook has a long criminal history that includes charges of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary, theft, aggravated assault, vandalism and attempted robbery.
Police responded to the shooting just after 8:00 pm Tuesday at Highland Terrace Apartments, an off-campus complex occupied primarily by UT students. Macee Peterkin and Aundre Buford, both 21, were found in Buford’s apartment on Highland Avenue, suffering from gunshot wounds. Middlebrook was discovered several blocks away. He had also been shot.
“He is at UT Medical Center being treated for his injuries because he was also shot and once he’s released from UT he will be placed into custody,” said KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
In an interview with WUOT News, Debusk refused to speculate publicly about the origin of Middlebrook’s wounds or if there were any other suspects. “By releasing too much information, that could hinder the investigation,” he said.
Investigators planned to interview the victims Wednesday to try to determine if there were any other people involved in the shooting.
