Knoxville Opera presents Verdi's "Il Trovatore"

Insideofknoxville.com

The Knoxville Opera is putting together a production of Verdi's romantic drama, Il Trovatore.  Performances are Friday, April 24th at 8pm and Sunday, April 26th at 2:30.  Maestro Salesky will host an opera preview 45 minutes prior to each performance and opera fans who find themselves without a companion to see the opera are encouraged to inquire about KO's new program, the "Sempre Opera Society."  Il Trovatore will be sung in Italian with projected English translations.

Considered to be a staple of the standard operatic repertoire, audience members will recognize many of the "tunes" in Il Trovatore, including the famous "Anvil Chorus."  Verdi's expressive and dramatic music does not disappoint, leading to many "chill-bump inducing moments" throughout this incredible score. This is a tale of jealousy, vengeance, lust, murder, and love.

Morning Concert host, Melony Dodson, talked with soprano, Rochelle Bard, and tenor, Jonathan Burton, about this production: the story and their characters, the challenges of the music, the director's unique approach, and the lightening speed in which they both learned their demanding roles.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
