Knoxville Opera one of only two Opera companies in the US producing Bellini's "Norma" this year

Knoxville Opera

The Knoxville Opera is one of only two companies producing Bellini's opera, "Norma," this year.  (The other company being the Metropolitan Opera in NYC).  A few days ago, Melony Dodson talked with stage director, Elizabeth Bachmann, about this beautiful, but rarely performed work.  Its challenges, rewards, beautiful floating melodies, and strong characters are all topics that are discussed in this conversation.  "Norma" is a rare gem and one that you probably won't want to miss.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
