The US Department of Housing and Urban Development reports that homelessness is declining in Tennessee and across the nation.
The latest estimates from HUD counted just over 9,500 homeless individuals in Tennessee. That’s down by 748 from 2010.
Homelessness among military veterans was down by 8%; chronic homelessness down 7%. Chronic homelessness is homelessness for a year or longer, or at least four episodes of homelessness in the last three years.
HUD’s annual estimates come from measuring homelessness in more than 3,000 cities on a single night in January each year.
