Hey! Wait! Something Sounds Different!

doggies.com

You may have turned on WUOT this morning and thought, "Hey! Wait! Something sounds different!"

Maybe you thought, "Now I could swear they usually do the news at this time..." or "Did I slip into some weird space-time continuum from which there's no escape?"

Well, it's not your imagination--something is different. (But it's not a weird space-time continuum.)

On November 17, 2014, NPR tweaked the way it schedules stories, interviews and news updates within its Morning Edition and All Things Considered broadcasts to respond to the changing way we listen to radio today.

At the core of these changes is something we call a "broadcast clock." Broadcast clocks are set templates that stations like WUOT use to track the timing of a show's stories and interviews, newscasts and funding credits each day.

So how will you notice the changes? You're likely to hear several more regular breaks for local news and info in Morning Edition and All Things Considered. You may notice certain segments like StoryCorps will run at different times. WUOT news updates are shorter, but there are more of them. In the end, both WUOT and NPR will have greater flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing news landscape.

We're sharing feedback with NPR about these changes as they roll out. If you have questions or comments, please send them to us at newsroom@wuot.org.
