Knox County leaders are trying to figure out how to close a $2.96-milion gap in the county school system's proposed FY 2015 budget. That gap was opened last week, when an updated state estimate drastically scaled back state funding under the Basic Education Program, or BEP. The BEP is at the center of this budget scramble, but it’s a complex thing to understand.
