Chattanooga Ranks High For Hispanic Population Growth

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the city’s Hispanic population more than tripled in years between 2000 and 2010; finance network WalletHub ranked the city third among the nation’s 150 largest cities for that growth.

But the city ranked much lower in purchasing power and business friendliness towards Hispanics:  116th for purchasing power and 90th for business friendliness.

Nearly 9,900 of Chattanooga’s 168,000 residents are Hispanic, or about 6 percent.

Nationally, Hispanics make up about 17 percent of the total population, at about 54 million, and are predicted to make up a third of the US population by 2050.

Montgomery and Huntsville, Alabama, were the top two cities in the US for Hispanic population growth.
