State Senator Joe Carr's campaign plans to file an amended financial disclosure form to answer a request for clarification from the Federal Election Commission.
At issue is a $9,600 donation from a Nashville-based LLC, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported. If that company is considered a corporation, its contribution would violate federal campaign finance rules. If it isn't, then the donation would be allowed.
The FEC reached out to Carr's campaign to sort out the issue. Campaign manager Donald Rickman told the News Sentinel an amended form will be filed, and pointed out that the FEC had not accused Carr's campaign of any wrongdoing.
Carr is challenging incumbent U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander for the Republican nomination in August's GOP primary.
