Campfield Blog Post Draws Fire From State GOP
The head of the Tennessee Republican Party called for Knoxville Sen. Stacey Campfield to apologize to members of the Jewish faith today after Campfield posted comments Monday morning drawing comparisons between ObamaCare and the Holocaust.
“Democrats bragging about the number of mandatory sign ups for Obamacare is like Germans bragging about the number of mandatory (sic) sign ups for ‘train rides’ for Jews in the 40s,” Campfield posted on his Camp4u web blog.
In a statement posted on the Tennessee GOP web page, Republican Party Chair Chris Duvaney suggested Campfield apologize, adding “(Campfield’s words) have no place in our public discourse.”
The Tennessee Democratic Party also responded, calling Campfield’s post “outrageous, pathetic and hateful.”
When contacted by the Knoxville News Sentinel, Campfield said he didn’t intend to insult anyone, but he stands by his analogy. “I think Jewish people should be the first to stand up against Obamacare,” he said. “If government is controlling people's health insurance, they are potentially controlling people's lives, letting the government choose who lives and who dies.”
