Aluminum giant Alcoa, Incorporated has reached a five-year agreement with the United Steelworkersunion that should avoid the possibility of a strike.
The agreement would cover about 6,000 USW members at Alcoa plants in eight states, including the Blount County plant in Tennessee.
The agreement includes a 2.5% raise each of the first three years; a 3% raise each of the last two; and a five-year cap on health insurance premiums.
Meetings to explain the agreement are next, followed by votes by individual locals on whether to ratify it.
