Those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher are considered obese and according to Gallup, obesity rates have increased nationwide each year since 2008. The US rate is now more than 27%, up from 26% in 2012. An average of 62.8% of American adults was overweight or obese that same year.
Tennessee is home to the largest natural refuge for elephants in the US, the Elephant Sanctuary, in Hohenwald, Tennessee. Currently, eleven Asian elephants and two African elephants, all females, live their lives in the sanctuary, with minimal human contact.

The agency that oversees the 54 locations within the Tennessee State Parks system is exploring the possibility of turning over some functions to private corporations.
