The Nashville-based singer/songwriter duo Sam & Ruby is kicking off their first tour in Knoxville tonight. Sam Brooker and Ruby Amanfu were friends for years before making music together. They come from very different backgrounds, yet discovered they were "musical soul mates". Sam is from Wisconsin, Ruby was born in Ghana, West Africa. He's white, she's black. Sam plays guitar and their voices blend effortlessly. Ruby Amanfu tells WUOT's Ann Lloyd her instrumental skills are relegated to her off-stage life...

In the mid-1990's, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development instituted the Homeless Management Information System, or HMIS, a computerized collection of data on the nation's homeless. The system has been implemented throughout the country, and has been used in Knox County since 2004. Chrissy Keuper speaks with David Patterson, a professor of Social Work at the University of Tennessee and the director of Knox HMIS. Patterson says the number of homeless nationwide has leveled off, but that's not the case in Knox County...

Knox County is looking at expanding a program, now in a handful of schools. It's a student-led conflict resolution method called "Peer Mediation". It's a technique used for more than 30 years all around the world. This week, teachers, administrators and students from six Knox County middle schools are being trained in the process. WUOT's Ann Lloyd dropped in to the Howard Baker Center on the University of Tennessee campus to learn more about "Peer Mediation"...
Since 1854, Knoxville's Market Square has been a microcosm of the growing city that surrounds it.
