Galileo

This evening, the Clarence Brown Theatre opens its latest production. "The Life of Galileo" is a new translation of the Bertolt Brecht play. It examines a pivotal time in the famous scientist's life. Chicago-based actor Roderick Peeples portrays Galileo in the University of Tennessee production. Peeples tells WUOT's Ann Lloyd he's admired the historical figure for a long time...Listen Now

The Spay Shuttle

Last year more than 10,000 dogs and cats were euthanized at Knox County's Young-Williams Animal Center. Most were either strays or given up by their owners. To reduce the number of pets put down each year, a new free sterilization service is underway. It's a mobile surgical suite called the "Spay Shuttle", and it's proving very popular. The Tennessee General Assembly is back in session and this is already shaping up to be an interesting year. For one thing, we've got an election this year. And that always adds an extra helping of animosity and partisanship to the proceedings. And once again, we've got a politically divided legislature. The Republicans still run the Senate and the Democrats still control the House. Throw in some of the more divisive issues that always generate discussion---like abortion, immigration and education reform--- and the stage is set for a lively session.
