The Church as a Peacemaker

Throughout the 1990s, Irish minister Ken Newell played an important role in brokering peace in Northern Ireland. The Presbyterian minister says overcoming armed conflict between Catholic and Protestant factions was very difficult. Cartoonist Keith Knight

Keith Knight is one of the few black syndicated cartoonists in America. His two comics "The K Chronicles and (Th)ink are featured in some 35 newspapers, most of them "alternative" presses. He's spending the day at Maryville College and tonight opens the Spring Community Conversations series there. Knight is in some ways an accidental success. American Contractors in Iraq

There are an estimated 100,000 civilians in Iraq working alongside the U.S. military. LIke the soldiers, they've suffered kidnappings, injuries and death. Ira Glass

Twelve years ago, radio producer Ira Glass launched a new kind of public radio show called This American Life. The program was based on the premise that normal people have interesting and compelling stories to tell. Over the years, the show has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Peabody and Dupont-Columbia awards. Flesh & Bone

The author known as Jefferson Bass has a new Body Farm novel. "Flesh and Bone" was written by the team Jon Jefferson and renowned forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Bass. Like their first book "Carved in Bone", it revolves around the fictional character of Dr. Bill Brockton, a forensic expert and UT professor. Jefferson relied heavily on Dr. Bass' research and experience for both books. But Jefferson tells WUOT's Ann Lloyd that "Flesh and Bone" was a more difficult book to write...Listen Now

Ananse- Early in the Day

A unique puppet show is playing at the Bijou Theatre today. "Ananse--Early in the Day" is based on several West African folk tales. The puppets are constructed on a huge scale--- up to 8 feet tall.
