Until recently, the Geier Consent Decree ensured that higher education opportunities for minority students in Tennessee were on equal footing with those for white students. In September, all of the parties in the lawsuit that resulted in Geier agreed that it was no longer necessary. So what happens now that the protections of Geier are gone?
