Suffrage Memorial

In August of 1920, Tennessee cast the deciding ballot that gave American women the right to vote. The passage of the 19th Amendment was the culmination of a long struggle that included the work of three dedicated women from Tennessee. The contributions of Lizzie Crozier French, Anne Dallas Dudley and Elizabeth Avery Meriweather will be recognized this weekend when the Suffrage Coalition unveils a memorial in their honor on Market Square in Knoxville. Attorney Wanda Sobieski is the coordinator of the Suffrage Coalition and she speaks with WUOT's Chrissy Keuper about the importance of these three women...Listen Now

The Desert Camps

A group of former refugees and prisoners from Northern Africa spent this week in East Tennessee. They're here to bring attention to the plight of the roughly 80,000 people currently living in Algerian refugee camps. Some of the refugees have been trapped in the camps for decades.
