Doctors in Knoxville say a young Iraqi girl is steadily improving after surgery to repair her spine. Gufran Alayass was born with a serious deformity known as spina bifida. She lived with the condition for ten years, unable to walk. But one day, her father took her to see an American soldier serving in Iraq. And her life hasn't been the same since. Girl Scout Day Spa

Pre-teen girls face a lot of pressure to conform to society's ideas of beauty and self-worth. It's this pressure that led the Girl Scouts' Tanasi Council to develop a "Spa Day" specifically for ten, eleven and twelve year-old girls. Unto These Hills

Since 1950, tourists coming to Cherokee North Carolina have often stopped into the Mountainside Theatre to watch a theatrical program of song and dance about the Cherokee people. "Unto These Hills" was entertaining. But the Cherokee say there was little truth to the ways in which the people were depicted. Tonight, a completely different version of the show opens at the Mountainside. It's been rewritten to reflect the real lives of the Eastern Band of Cherokees. Public Notice

This fall, Tennessee residents could vote on a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. That amendment faces an important challenge before the Tennessee Supreme Court. The Tennessee A-C-L-U will argue that the General Assembly didn't follow the rules laid out in the state constitution when it published public notices about the amendment. Dangerous Living

What does it mean to come out as a gay person in Asia, the Middle East or Africa? The film "Dangerous Living" looks at that question in depth. Filmmaker John Scagliotti screens "Dangerous Living" and leads an open discussion at the Knoxville Museum of Art this evening.
