Oak Leaf Controversy

Today Oak Ridge Public Schools Superintendent Tom Bailey told the Oak Ridger newspaper that a recent issue of the Oak Ridge High School student newspaper will be re-printed. One controversial article will be pulled completely. Another article will be changed. Last week, school officials confiscated all 18-hundred copies of the "Oak Leaf" student newspaper because it contained detailed information about birth control and photos of underage students with tattoos. The issue received international press attention. And last night, several students showed up at a school board meeting to protest. Despite today's decision, the issue appears far from resolved. Laurie Anderson

Performance Artist Laurie Anderson will present her multi-media show "The End of the Moon" tonight at the Tennessee Theatre. She tells the story about how she became the first Artist in Residence for NASA and what she learned from the experience. Senior Summit

More than 70,000 Knox County residents are sixty years old or older. They are affected by a variety of issues. Those include health care, the government's new Medicare drug plan, scams targeted toward the elderly and the changing role of grandparents in families. Those issues and more will be addressed at the Knox County Senior Summit and Expo.
